Partner Jian GANU Reappointed as Member of WIPO Independent Advisory Oversight Committee
Recently, Jian GANU, Managing Partner of Beijing Grandwin Law Firm, was formally reappointed by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) as a member of the WIPO Independent Advisory Oversight Committee (IAOC). His new term will run from February 1, 2026, to February 1, 2029, marking his second (and final) three-year term.
As a specialized agency of the United Nations, WIPO is one of the most authoritative international organizations in the field of global intellectual property governance. It is responsible for coordinating the development of international intellectual property rules and promoting the protection and dissemination of innovative achievements. WIPO’s decision-making and oversight systems directly influence the fairness and efficiency of the global intellectual property ecosystem. The IAOC serves as WIPO’s core oversight body, consisting of seven members representing each of WIPO’s seven regional groups. It undertakes independent advisory and supervisory functions regarding critical matters such as organizational management and financial compliance. Committee members are required to possess deep professional expertise, independent judgment, and a global perspective. Their selection follows a rigorous process, representing high recognition by the international community of their professional competence and credibility.
During his first term (2023–2026), Partner Jian GANU, drawing on his extensive experience in legal compliance and governance oversight, provided high-quality support to the IAOC’s supervisory work through independent and professional performance. His reappointment is a strong affirmation by WIPO of his professional capabilities and the value of his contributions. Profile of Partner Jian GANU
Dr. Jian GANU is the Managing Partner of Beijing Grandwin Law Firm and currently serves as a member of the WIPO Independent Advisory Oversight Committee. With over 20 years of experience in international trade and investment law, he has represented the Chinese government in leading and participating in multiple WTO dispute settlement cases and has been involved in the Chinese government’s negotiations for bilateral and regional trade and investment agreements. He has also represented Chinese enterprises and business associations in a series of international economic and trade disputes and trade compliance cases, including anti-dumping and countervailing investigations, U.S. Section 301 investigations, Special 301 reviews, WTO compliance examinations, and export control and sanctions compliance matters. Dr. Jian GANU has published more than 20 articles on international trade and investment in core domestic and international journals.
